BP Wants Fake Twitter Feed To Say So

BP, along with all of its other damage control in the wake of the gulf oil leak, has asked the creators of a fake BP Twitter feed to make clear that it is not a BP entity.

“Naturally, the anonymous operator had some more fun at BP's expense while making the adjustment,” writes The New York Times. “The Twitter feed, which is followed by more than 150,000 people, formerly claimed that it seeks to 'get BP's message and mission statement out into the twitterverse!'

”Now the feed describes itself thusly: 'We are not associated with Beyond Petroleum, the company that has been destroying the Gulf of Mexico for 51 days.'"

The Times adds that Twitter issued the following statement on the situation: “BP requested that the account holder be asked to comply with Twitter's guidelines regarding parody. Twitter subsequently provided suggestions of best practices that are found on our parody policy page."
