Real Clear Politics' A.B. Stoddard: “I'm Very Disturbed By What The Trump People Do To The Press”

SHEPARD SMITH (HOST): What's your thinking on on the lack of transparency, how it affects the democracy and the people?

A.B. STODDARD: Yeah, I'm very disturbed by what the Trump people do to the press, the way Trump has worked very hard to discredit the media, as you know, telling everyone in the rallies, that the people in the back are liars, they're disgusting, they will never show the crowd size. Meanwhile, his campaign doesn't let the cameras do a side shot. It's just a very, very upsetting situation. We're in a perilous time in this country. There has to be a pool, a protected pool following the president-elect, and the president throughout his presidency. He may not like it, he might not have signed up for that, but that's where he is. He won the election, shock or no shock. And he has to be protected by a pool and has to have cameras in when he meets world leaders and he has to play. There's rules that Donald Trump has broken that are fine to be broken, but not that rule. And I really hope that he and his people change their minds about this in the next 60-some days.

SMITH: Unless people think it's about us. We don't care; if we don't have to send a staff photog, then we don't have to send a staff photog. But if something happens and the people don't get that word, this is about the presidency and the people. It's -- it really doesn't have anything to do with -- we're just a conduit. The Constitution says that's what we do.
