KATY TUR (HOST): These kids who have witnessed and survived what was once unthinkable are trying to make sure it doesn't happen again. Unbelievable because they are speaking out because they are brave, because they have a point, because they are convincing, because of all that they are now a political target. Fodder for sick conspiracy theories, just like 9/11 and Sandy Hook, so-called truthers have emerged, throwing around terms like “crisis actors,” a label they give to victims they believe are faking. Unbelievable.

Normally we would not want to spend air time giving them attention but this week calling a survivor and outspoken student journalist, David Hogg a crisis actor. That’s what’s happening. It was liked that tweet by Donald Trump Jr, the president’s son. And it wasn't just that tweet. A Florida state representative's aide was fired after he pushed the crisis actor conspiracy theory in an e-mail to a Tampa Bay Times reporter. Then there was the Gateway Pundit. That site didn’t push the crisis actor line of attack, but published other theories meant to cast doubt. The Gateway Pundit has White House credentials. And it’s more mainstream than even that - Rush Limbaugh is attacking the students, quote, “everything they're doing is right out of the Democrat Party's various playbooks. It has the same enemies, the NRA and guns. So is former congressman Jack Kingston who, to be fair, has had a hard time with facts and truth in the past. Quote, “Do we really think 17 years old on their own are going to plan a nationwide rally?” He said that on CNN. And former Fox News anchor and accused sexual harasser Bill O'Reilly, quote, “The national press believes it's their job to destroy the Trump administration by any means necessary. So if the media has to use to do that, they'll use kids.” Unbelievable. Enough with the noise. Let's listen to the kids.
