That was always the case with the paper's right-wing opinion pages. But now under Rupert Murdoch's ownership, the same is true of the news pages. Here's today's obvious example of the Journal newsroom dutifully pushing a GOP talking point and pretending it's news:
Napolitano Under Fire Again
No joke [emphasis added]:
Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and her agency are under fire again after the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico and the attempted bombing in Manhattan's Times Square...DHS has been thrust further into the spotlight due to the struggle to contain what could become one of the biggest oil spills in U.S. waters. The crisis is raising questions about the DHS's ability to respond quickly to large-scale disasters.
Well, that's certainly a new angle. But where's the proof Napolitano is “under fire” for the BP oil spill? This is all the Journal offers up to support the claim:
“We have lots of questions about what happened,” said Sen. Joseph Lieberman (I., Conn.), who is chairman of the committee. He added that Ms. Napolitano, who “has one of the toughest jobs in the country,” has done a “really good job marshalling resources” after the spill.
So a senator who thinks Napolitano has done a “really good job,” wants to ask her “questions” about the spill, and the Journal rushes to report that she's “under fire”?
Good grief.
