Rahm Emanuel was supposed to be the guest for The Wall Street Journal's second “Big Interview,” its new weekly online interview show. But that has been postponed, the paper says, citing a scheduling conflict.
Instead, the second installment launched today with Carol Browner, President Obama's special advisor on energy and climate change, interviewed by Journal D.C. scribe Gerald Seib.
On the BP oil debacle, she states: “Maybe this is a sector where you really need large companies who can bring to bear the expertise and who have the wherewithal to cover the expense if something goes wrong.” Eliminating a $75 million cap on liability for oil spills “will mean that you only have large companies in this sector.”
“Browner also said the Obama administration will accept an energy bill this year 'just to get started.' She said the administration is mindful of the effects of a deep-water-drilling moratorium and wants 'to get people back to work' but also needs to understand what caused the BP PLC oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. She cited widespread frustration over the spill and said that while BP has more damages to pay, the company can afford the costs."
