GRIFF JENKINS (FOX NEWS CORRESPONDENT): Meanwhile, Democrats are blasting the president's response, saying it amounts to the highest betrayal.

(BEGIN CLIP)

REP. SETH MOULTON (D-MA): If this isn't treason, I don't know what is. As a 2nd Lieutenant, if I disregarded an intelligence report, didn't bother to read it, and it got my Marines killed, I wouldn't be treating — tweeting excuses. I would be in prison, because that's the standard of accountability for the most junior officer in the United States military.

BRIAN KILMEADE (CO-HOST): I think — thanks, Griff. I think what Seth Moulton's missing — and appreciate his service, and what is it like being in the war zone — but the president gets a President's Daily Brief, which is like a mini-novel every single day. So he gets verbally briefed, the highlights. And what there was, was dissenting opinion on this. So before you take action against another nation, especially against Russia, you usually get more. And it wasn't briefed to him directly, so it was kept below him. When he was finally briefed on it, I think two days ago, they're going to decide if it's verifiable. They are also talking to The New York Times about a person that was found with, I think $500,000, an Afghani that was found and they said has links to the Taliban, that could be it. Obviously, this thing is unfolding. And obviously, people once again can't wait to get their claws into another Russian controversy.

AINSLEY EARHARDT (CO-HOST): I know.

STEVE DOOCY (CO-HOST): Politics.

KILMEADE: And if you ask me, if you tell me if it's news that a Taliban official wants — a Taliban fighter wants to kill an American — that's called every day for the last 19 years. Whether it's Pakistani, Uzbeki, Taliban, they don't really need Russian incentives. If the Russians' money is involved there, let's find out it. But it is not big news that a Taliban guy is trying to kill an American soldier.

EARHARDT: Well, plus he says it's treason, that the president — if he knew about this, that is treason. Well, guest what? He didn't know about it. He wasn't briefed on it.

DOOCY: Right.
