I realize it's Fox News' preferred talking point. I realize Fox News execs are trying to publically pat themselves on the back by claiming they downplayed or even ignored the story of wingnut Terry Jones threatening to burn Qurans on 9/11. And I realize that's the story Fox News wants the rest of the media to tell.
But the truth is there's a yawning gap between what Fox News claims and reality. So why does media critic Howard Kurtz keep pushing the phony fact?
Kurtz did it in a Washington Post column, and then on CNN's Reliable Sources he did it again:
Fact: For the week that just ended, Fox News mentioned “Quran” (or “Koran”) nearly 100 times on the air, according to TVeyes.com. How was that, in Kurtz's word, denying the story “oxygen”?
