Wash. Times Champions King's Hearings On Muslim Extremism

In a March 7 editorial, The Washington Times wrote that Rep. Peter King's upcoming hearings on Muslim radicalization “are a useful step toward opening up the debate on the pressing problem of domestic Islamic extremism.” The Times further claimed that American Muslims “should welcome the opportunity to expose their coreligionists for whom the United States is, in the words of Osama bin Laden, 'the worst civilization in the history of mankind.'”

From the Times' editorial:

Mr. King's planned hearings will shine a bright light on a challenge the Obama administration has studiously ignored, with fatal results. Overlooking the motives of Muslim terrorists has become an O Force obsession. Every time a terrorist incident takes place that has all the hallmarks of a jihadist strike, official statements are suspiciously mute on the religious motivations that led to the attacks. This sends a clear signal to the federal bureaucracy that U.S. government officials who take a special interest in the Islamic aspect of the terror threat are asking for a quick end to their careers.

Mr. King's hearings are a useful step toward opening up the debate on the pressing problem of domestic Islamic extremism. Mr. Obama's inexplicable tendency to turn aside from the question has harmed the ability of the United States to deal with this threat. Although largely silent until now, American Muslims should welcome the opportunity to expose their coreligionists for whom the United States is, in the words of Osama bin Laden, “the worst civilization in the history of mankind.”
