Throughout his career on Fox News, Glenn Beck shamelessly used the platform to promote a variety of his own ventures outside Fox News. Both on his own show and in guest appearances on other shows, Beck promoted his books, tours, subscriber-only Web content, and the Restoring Honor and Restoring Courage rallies.

Beck Self-Promotion: Common Sense Comedy Tour
Beck Describes Tour As “Comedy From A Conservative Point Of View, Libertarian,” Adds, “I Make Fun Of Everybody.” From Glenn Beck:
BECK: OK. Hang on just a second. Summer is on the way and with it comes the comedy tour. Yes, believe it or not, comedy out of this fat face. Common sense comedy tour. It is - well, it's comedy from a conservative point of view, libertarian. I make fun of everybody. It starts June 1st and it goes through June 6.
I will be in Denver, Phoenix, San Diego, Kansas City, Houston and then Richmond. I can't get to every city. And that's why on June 4th, the Kansas City show will be simulcast live to high definition movie theaters. I think there are 450 nationwide. Go to one near you or go to “GlennBeck.com/Tour” for all the details and ticket information. That's coming up. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 4/16/09, via Nexis]
Beck Calls Tour “Kind Of Thomas Paine And A Little Sam Kinison Fused Together.” From Glenn Beck:
BECK: That's a clip from the Mid-Life Crisis Comedy Tour I did a couple of years ago. This time, Common Sense Comedy Tour, kind of Thomas Paine and a little Sam Kinison fused together. June 1st through June 6th.
PENN JILLETTE: That was humble.
BECK: I didn't say it was good. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 5/19/09, via Nexis]
Beck: “The Show Is Going To Be Simulcast To High Definition Movie Theaters All Around You, 450 Movie Screens All Around The Country. It Will Be Live. It's A Lot Of Fun. No Crying, A Lot Of Sweating.” From Glenn Beck:
BECK: That's a clip from my tour last summer called “Unelectable,” where I was the unelectable presidential candidate.
I'm on the road all next week, again, for our “Common Sense” comedy tour. You don't want to miss it. It starts June 1st in Denver. Then we're off to San Diego and Phoenix and we'll be in Kansas City and Houston and Richmond. You don't want to miss this.
By the way, on June 4th, the Kansas City show -- where there are tickets still available -- the show is going to be simulcast to high definition movie theaters all around you, 450 movie screens all around the country. It will be live. It's a lot of fun. No crying, a lot of sweating -- a lot of sweating. What? Know how you can get a ticket at GlennBeck.com/tour for details. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 5/27/09, via Nexis]
Beck: “We'll Be Broadcasting In 450 Movie Theaters Live All Across The Country. ... Believe Me, You Haven't Lived Until You've Seen Me Up Close And Personal With Pores In My Face The Size Of Buicks And All Sweaty On High Definition.” From Glenn Beck:
BECK: That was a clip from last year as I was campaigning on the “Unelectable” tour. This year's tour -- this year's tour is “Common Sense” comedy. You don't want to miss out. We hit the road on Monday, June 1st through June 6th. I'm going to be in Denver, Phoenix, San Diego, Kansas City, Houston and Richmond.
A week from tonight, we'll be broadcasting in 450 movie theaters live all across the country. There's a high definition movie theater near you. Believe me, you haven't lived until you've seen me up close and personal with pores in my face the size of Buicks and all sweaty on high definition and -- oh.
Grab your tickets. GlennBeck.com/tour -- that's where you can get all the details. And if you want to see us live, some tickets are still available in some cities, check it out at Ticketmaster.com. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 5/28/09 via Nexis]
Beck: “Because I Can't Get To Every City, When We Are In Kansas City, We're Going To Simulcast That Live From The Stage To A High Definition Movie Theater Near You.” From Glenn Beck:
BECK: That would be part two of our series with Thomas Sowell, “The Housing Boom and Bust.” Oh, it's a great book.
Tonight, I'm going to kick off my “Common Sense” comedy tour right here at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House in Denver, Colorado. Tomorrow night, we're going to be in Phoenix, then San Diego, Kansas City -- where it's going to be in a movie theater as well, Houston, and then Richmond on Saturday.
Because I can't get to every city, when we are in Kansas City, we're going to simulcast that live from the stage to a high definition movie theater near you, because, really, this show is probably funny when you are just watching me on an enormous giant screen, you know, sweating in high-def and you've got popcorn and peanuts. I'm just saying. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 6/1/09 via Nexis]
Beck Responds To Critiques Of Tour: “GlennBeck.com: All The Details. Find The Theater, Buy A Ticket, And Decide For Yourself, America.” From Glenn Beck:
BECK: Now, last week I launched my “Common Sense” comedy tour. Last Thursday, we were simulcast from the live show in Kansas City for more than 400 movie theaters all across the country. Tonight, at a theater near you, if you missed it, there is an encore showing of the “Common Sense” comedy tour. You don't want to miss it.
“The New York Times” said -- well, they said we did “little to change the minds of those people who see Mr. Beck as a right-wing ranter bordering on a demagogue.” So, I mean, they didn't like it. Maybe it's just me.
“Vanity Fair” called the show “all wind-up and no delivery.” And “Time” magazine raves “Beck's material wasn't original.” They loved it. You will, too.
GlennBeck.com: all the details. Find the theater, buy a ticket, and decide for yourself, America. That is tonight, 8:00 p.m. Eastern and 8 p.m. Pacific. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 6/11/09 via Nexis]

Beck Self-Promotion: Arguing With Idiots
Beck Plugs Arguing With Idiots: " 'Arguing With Idiots' Came Out Today. It's Up Against The Ted Kennedy Book. I Mean, He Had A Whole Lifetime To Write His. I Only Had A Year." From Glenn Beck:
BECK: “Arguing with Idiots” came out today. It's up against the Ted Kennedy book. I mean, he had a whole lifetime to write his. I only had a year. But check it out. It's great, and it's full of all the facts that you can use to be able to stop the insanity here. Let's actually connect the facts, can we? [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 9/22/09 via Nexis]
Beck: “You Can Learn More About This Indoctrination That Is Going On With Your Children ... Outline[d] In My Book, 'Arguing with Idiots.' Go Get A Copy.” From Glenn Beck:
BECK: The “Arguing with Idiots” is out now. I was talking to Don Imus this morning, and he said, “My favorite part of the book is,” I don't know where it is -- “My favorite part of the book is, it says if you can read this, thank a teacher, if you can't read this, thank a union, teachers union.”
[...]
BECK: Keith, I appreciate you being on the program. I appreciate you being an active parent in your kids' lives, and I thank you so much for watching the broadcast.

Beck Self-Promotion: The Christmas Sweater
Beck Promotes The Christmas Sweater Picture Book: “Al Gore, You Would Be Proud. It Is Indoctrination Of All The Good Stuff. And As A Parent, I Give You My Word That You Can Read This Book Without Any Fear Of Hidden Messages About The Evils Of Capitalism Or Anything Else.” From Glenn Beck:
BECK: Last year I wrote a fiction novel called “The Christmas Sweater” it's a very personal story about faith, family and the unending power of redemption. It was the number one “New York Times” best sellers last Christmas, more importantly, I heard from so many people all across the country that it help inspired them to change their lives for the better. Well, we have done a couple of things this year. Here's the first one, we have adapted this story for a group of people who I think can use that message, and that's kids.
Yes, I'm indoctrinating your children with controversial messages like you don't always get everything you want, and sometimes love is the greatest gift in the world. I know pretty controversial stuff. We spent a long time, I look for the best artists I could find. I finally found the guy, a prize-winning artist. They're beautiful. It is absolutely beautiful. I have read it to my children before I even turned it in. I read to my children. They were asking me every night for over a month, “Dad, can we read the Christmas Sweater?” Al Gore, you would be proud. It is indoctrination of all the good stuff. And as a parent, I give you my word that you can read this book without any fear of hidden messages about the evils of capitalism or anything else. It is “The Christmas Sweater” picture book, available everywhere beginning today. Take a look. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 10/27/09 via Nexis]
Beck Promotes Live Adaptation Of The Christmas Sweater. From Glenn Beck:
BECK: Last year, about this time, I released my first fiction novel. It was called “The Christmas Sweater.” I would like to ask you this year to go out this year and see in the movie theaters, “A Christmas Sweater: A Return to Redemption Live.”
It is a live broadcast with me in the movie theaters and it's a continuation from last year's stage show where - this year, I'll be talking about the real life events that led me to write “The Christmas Sweater.”
This is a story about redemption, about picking yourself up and starting all over again no matter what mistakes that you have made. It is critical, I believe, to the survival of all of us, as individuals and, collectively, as a nation, that we get past our past and start working on things from a different perspective. Watch what's coming to a movie theater near you. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 11/23/09 via Nexis]
On O'Reilly, Beck Promotes The Christmas Sweater: A Picture Book. From The O'Reilly Factor:

GLENN BECK, FOX NEWS ANCHOR: Yeah.
O'REILLY: Another one. The Christmas Sweater: A Picture Book.
BECK: Yeah. It'll be our fourth - I mean, assuming this one does well, this could be our fourth number one bestseller of the year, 12 months.
O'REILLY: In three weeks.
BECK: In.
O'REILLY: You and Gingrich every three weeks.
BECK: I'm just saying.
O'REILLY: You and Newt Gingrich.
BECK: .we're machines.

Beck Self-Promotion: The Overton Window: “It Is Fiction, But A Lot Of It Is Fact”
Beck's “Shameless Plug” For Father's Day: "The Overton Window Is A Great Read. It's A Thriller For Dad." From Glenn Beck:
BECK: Let me do a - let me just do a shameless plug here for just a second on Father's Day if you are going in the bookstore anyway. “The Overton Window” is a great read. It's a thriller for dad. You can pick it up. He'll enjoy it. And pick one up for yourself, too. I think you will enjoy it. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 6/18/10 via Nexis]
Beck Thanks Fox Audience For Sending The Overton Window To Top Of Bestseller List. From Glenn Beck:
BECK: You got it? The progressives. This is a union member saying what the political strategy should be. You just be with the immigrants. It's about power, gaining and keeping power, but this time on a global skill. They have been dividing and conquering.
And I know the unions will go crazy with this. We'll show you the evidence. They have been dividing and conquering forever. Well, now, who's going to be divided and conquered?
This “little guy” scam has been going on for years now because just as with racist history of many politicians in Washington, most Americans have forgotten their history and that's why we are here now.
We have more on the history union racism, and tomorrow, the history on American communism. It's a DVR show that you must have. Keep it for your children. You must do your own homework on this.
And one more thought - that's on tomorrow's show. One more thought - I just got the “New York Times” list and “The Overton Window” is the number one “New York Times” bestseller in America. I thank you for - I thank you for that.
I thank you so much for reading and caring about what we do on this program. I hope I haven't let you down. And if you haven't read it, read it. We worked hard on it. I think you will enjoy it. A thriller on what could possibly be coming our way. Open your mind just a little bit and pass it on to your friend. “The Overton Window” available in bookstores everywhere.
Coming up, more with a guy who's studied this for a very long time, next. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 6/22/10 via Nexis]
Beck Jokes: “America, There's A Communist Conspiracy At Work Right Now. His Job: Keep 'The Overton Window' Out Of The Number One 'New York Times' Best Seller Slot. At The Center, Some Guy Named Stieg Larsson.” From Glenn Beck:
BECK: I want you to know, America, there's a communist conspiracy at work right now. His job: keep “The Overton Window” out of the number one “New York Times” best seller slot. At the center, some guy named Stieg Larsson.
Oh, yes, sure, you may never have heard of him. He's a communist who wrote a bunch of books that everybody loves because he's dead now. But did he really die? That's what they want you to believe. Don't let the communists win.
OK. It really is a conspiracy. “The Overton Window” available in bookstores everywhere.
[...]
BECK: Good thing this audience reads, because there is a lot to read. Here's the latest from me. It is fiction, “The Overton Window.” You want to see a possible scenario? It is fiction, but a lot of it is fact. Check it out at bookstores everywhere - “The Overton Window.”
From New York, we'll see you tomorrow. Good night, America. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 6/22/10 via Nexis]
Beck: "'The Overton Window,' Number One 'New York Times' Bestseller. It's My Thriller. It's Not Only Meant To Entertain, But Also To Be Able To Go Back And Pore Over." From Glenn Beck:
BECK: By the way, “The Overton Window,” number one “New York Times” bestseller. It's my thriller. It's not only meant to entertain, but also to be able to go back and pore over.
I think “National Review” did a review on this and said it's a book you can read a couple pages and just put down and think about for a while and do research on. Just start here. You have book. First two words of the story, Eli Churchill, Elijah Churchill. Who is he? “The Overton Window,” available at stores everywhere. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 6/29/10 via Nexis]

O'REILLY: So people enroll in Beck University. And what -- what are they going to find there?
BECK: They're going to -- they're going to find -- they're going to find history that they didn't even know existed.
O'REILLY: OK. So...
BECK: They're going to...
O'REILLY: You're going to actually teach them?
BECK: No, no, no. I'm not. We have professors. And we just launched this just recently with three courses. One is on American history, faith and the role that God played. One is on the truth on the economy. And the other one is on the Constitution. Charity and how the Constitution, if you follow it, you live by the law, you can be the most charitable nation in the world.
O'REILLY: So this is online courses with real professors?
BECK: Yes, but it's not -- there's no accreditation to it. Just people who want to...
O'REILLY: Right, right. It's just...
BECK: What does that mean?
O'REILLY: ... people who want to broaden their horizons and expand -- what does that mean? It means...
BECK: What does that mean? We know that.
O'REILLY: It means you're not Yale. We understand you're not accredited, Beck.

Beck Self-Promotion: Broke
Beck Says He Spoke To Experts In Researching Broke, Then Says “Founders Did That. And It Was Freedom. And It Was Sparking The Imagination Of The American People.” From Glenn Beck:
BECK: Continuing with a happy theme tonight. How to restart America? I am launching next Tuesday this book, “Broke: The Plan to Restore Our Trust, Our Truth, and Our Treasure.” It's coming three sections. The first part is history. How did we get here? Second part, if you liked “common sense,” this is like common sense to a thousand. It is the second section is how bad is it really? Tell me the truth, doctor. I've got cancer, how long do I have to live?
And then the third part is what do we do? Honestly, I met for over a year putting this book together. I met with some of the biggest experts, and everything they said is basically being said here. Everything they said I just made notes of it. I thought founders did that. Founders did that. And it was freedom. And it was sparking the imagination of the American people. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 10/22/10 via Nexis]
On The O'Reilly Factor, Beck Promotes Broke And Live Show With O'Reilly. From The O'Reilly Factor:
O'REILLY: I'm with you on that. You've got a book called “Broke.” I have a book called “Pinheads & Patriots.” Both books say that the giant apparatus in Washington isn't looking out for the folks.
BECK: No, not at all.
[...]
O'REILLY: Now, how is the book doing, “Broke?”
BECK: Just came out No. 1 on Amazon.com.
O'REILLY: No. 1 on Amazon?
BECK: Yes. How's yours?
O'REILLY: Mine is a big hit. And we appreciate everybody who's has - - but you, you see, Beck, you go, like, to 18,000 signings, right? You sign everywhere.
BECK: I'm everywhere. I have to actually -- I just can't put my name on it and everybody go, “Oh, Bill O'Reilly. I like him.” I still have to work for a living.
O'REILLY: I know.
BECK: I have to go out and go, “No, really, it's good.”
O'REILLY: I saw Beck on the exit ramp on the Long Island Expressway: “I will sign. I will sign.” One of these. “Honk if you want my book signed.”
BECK: “Will work for food.” That's me. It's a bad economy.
O'REILLY: Now we have -- we're going to do a show together on Saturday.
BECK: Yes.
O'REILLY: Mohegan Sun.
BECK: Here's the thing. I haven't decided on my costume yet for our appearance together, you know? I was thinking about going as Nancy Pelosi, but I think that...
O'REILLY: I have one for you.
BECK: Who?
O'REILLY: Joy Behar. There you go.
BECK: That is pretty frightening.
O'REILLY: I'll give you a $5,000 if you show up at the show as Joy Behar.
BECK: Five thousand dollars?
O'REILLY: That's what I'll give you.
Glenn Beck, everybody. He's thinking about it. He'll sign books anywhere any time. Just e-mail him. [Fox News, The O'Reilly Factor, 10/29/10]
Beck Villifies George Soros, Then Bills His Book Broke As “Something That You Would Use As Almost A Handbook,” Says “You Can Either Play Aboveboard And Be Out In The Open, Or You Can Play Like Spooky Dude.” From Glenn Beck:
BECK: And it was George Soros who would lead the charge in California's pot legalization. Million dollars (INAUDIBLE) smoke pot. You must have been smoking some, George, because even California said, Sorry, dude. Total bummer. Can't go with you on the pot thing. Gee, I don't know, Wally. Mom and Dad get home and they see how many Fs we have on our report card, they're sure going to be upset. Maybe we shouldn't tell them. Oops!
Well, Spooky Dude, you know, it really kind of sucks to be you right now because not only have you had all these failures, I don't think on this program it's going to get much better for you, especially next Tuesday. Uh-oh!
BECK: Thank you for making this the best-selling book in America last week, “Broke.” It is the book that I put together -- took us over a year. I think I met on an ongoing basis over the last year with 34 experts in every field. There's 50 pages of notebooks -- this is -- or I mean fine print footnotes. This is the book that you can give your children or your grandchildren, or you can read. This is -- we meant this to be something that you would use as almost a handbook. It has the answers in it -- the answers of -- and what do you do?
Well, one way you can -- you know, one thing you can do, I guess you can either play aboveboard and be out in the open, or you can play like Spooky Dude. I just pointed out George Soros, and he had a tough election cycle. I want to thank Mark Hemingway (ph) at The Washington Examiner for helping us put all this together. “A” for effort, Spooky Dude. Seriously, George. I mean, you know, you just pour money down the drain into cutesy little progressive groups. I mean, why spend so much time and effort funneling money around all these pet projects that are supposedly designed to help people when you can just skip the middleman and just go right straight to the people who actually need help?
But while he's been busy dumping money down the progressive drain, things are falling apart around him. After hundreds of billions in bail- outs, Freddie Mac lost $4.1 billion in the third quarter. Union members keep pouring the money into unions, gang. They're showing signs that they're turning on progressive leadership, as well. Why? Because they're being exposed for who they are.
In Ohio, nearly a third of the labor vote went to Republicans in the governor's race, 45 percent of union households supported a Republican for Senate. In Pennsylvania, 44 percent of union household members voted for Republican Pat Toomey.
It's a scam and people know it. And we're going to keep exposing it. And it'll keep falling apart on them because the truth will always set you free. George, really. Pick up the book. It's cheaper. It's cheaper! You can get this, and it has all the answers in it! Of course, it'll set people free, which is -- won't enrich you. You know what this is, George? This is like the Death Star. And I think you said -- in one episode of “Stars Wars,” you said, Oh, and I promise you this Death Star is fully operational. It is. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 11/4/10, via Nexis]
Beck Self-Promotion: The Seven
Plugging The Seven, Beck Mentions “The Seven Wonders That Will Change Your Life” And “Seven Wonders That Will Restore America.” From Glenn Beck:
BECK: Back last spring, back last spring, I was talking to a good friend of mine. Keith Ablow. And quite honestly, we were talking about the country. How do I save the country? And he said, man, you've really got this kind of “save the country” kind of thing going for you. And I said, I'm here for a reason. We're all here for a reason.
And we just started talking about life and trials and tribulations, the way life can throw things in. He said, “You know, I've known for a long time and I know all the things that have happened to you in your life.” But he asked me a question that nobody in the media has ever asked me: “How did you go from suicidal hopeless, helpless alcoholic to here?”
That is -- that is not a question that anybody has asked me in the media. It's the untold story, really. And the reason why it's untold is because it empowers you.
Keith and I both realized I had lived a pattern that he studied in psychology and he was trying to put in practice. We put my practical experience together with his training in psychology and we realized -- oh, my gosh, the seven wonders that will change your life, not entirely. Seven wonders that will restore America.
[...]
BECK: And what is happening on a personal level is just being played out on a global level or a country level. I mean, let me ask you this. Are your finances or most of your friends' finances in about the same shape as the United States of America?
Are they overextended? Did they buy too much? Did they do crazy things? Did they not use common sense? Because the stats show that the American people are no different in their personal lives than they are as a country, as a whole.
That's what is happening to us. So we have to change us and then we won't accept it from the leadership anymore. Let me go to - this is the book that Keith and I put together. It's “The Seven Wonders that Will Change Your Life.”
This is a country solution on an individual basis. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 1/7/11, via Nexis]
Beck Self-Promotion: Bold & Fresh Tour With O'Reilly
Beck Announces Tour With O'Reilly On Factor. From The O'Reilly Factor:
O'REILLY: OK, now the big announcement. Ready, ladies and gentlemen? Listen to this.
BECK: Oh, boy.
O'REILLY: Beck and I, going on the road in January for the “Bold Fresh” tour. Take it away.
BECK: That's what we're calling it?
O'REILLY: “Bold Fresh” tour.
BECK: I've got, like, four books on the New York Times list right now.
O'REILLY: But none of them are as good as “Bold Fresh.” That's why we're calling
it the “Bold Fresh” tour.
BECK: Nobody told me it was “Bold Fresh” tour.
O'REILLY: Nobody told you anything. You're just along for the ride.
BECK: I...
O'REILLY: But tell the folks what it's going to be (ph).
BECK: Wait just a second. Are you taking part of my salary, too? Are you...
O'REILLY: No, no, no. You're going to pay you.
BECK: You're going to pay me?
O'REILLY: Ten percent.
BECK: That's good. Are you taking Greyhound? Are you taking a plane, and I'm going bus to bus?
O'REILLY: We'll work all that out. But tell the folks what it's going to be, Beck.
BECK: OK, here's what it is. I'm Bill's opening act, and I'm going to get you all revved up. And then Bill's going to come out, and then he's going to do like, I don't know, 30 minutes, and he's going to get you all revved up. And then, and then we're going at it. [Fox News, the O'Reilly Factor, 11/13/10, via Nexis]
Beck Promotes Tour On Glenn Beck. From Glenn Beck:
BECK: We've got several things that we're doing this year, but one of them we're doing again this weekend. It's the “Bold, Fresh Tour.” Bill O'Reilly for some reason has been so gracious to me. And he is kind of like an older brother - and Bill, a much, much older, older brother.
But we've been going out and on these tours. We started it Saturday. We're going out again Friday and Saturday. We're doing four different shows and they've sold out.
But you can see them on Saturday night. It is the “Bold, Fresh Tour” in movie theaters. I want to give you a little sneak peek here. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 1/27/10, via Nexis]
Beck Promotes Simulcast Of Tour In Movie Theaters. From Glenn Beck:
BECK: Now, don't forget, this Saturday, the “Bold Fresh Tour” is going to be simulcast live in theaters all across the country. And you will see myself and Bill O'Reilly together on stage.
Don't forget to go to “FathomEvents.com” to be able to get tickets. And one more thing, tomorrow is the truth on progressives like you've never seen it. Don't miss it. From New York, good night, America. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 1/28/10, via Nexis]
Beck Plugs Tour On O'Reilly: “Now, In Case You Don't Know What The Bold Fresh Tour Is, I Paint Bill's Body Entirely Blue, And Then He Acts Out Scenes Of Avatar.” From The O'Reilly Factor:
O'REILLY: Finally, this coming Saturday, Beck and O'Reilly at the movies. Five hundred theaters all across the United States. So, we want the folks to come in.
BECK: Now, in case you don't know what the Bold Fresh Tour is, I paint Bill's body entirely blue, and then he acts out scenes of Avatar. It's absolutely fantastic.
O'REILLY: And if you want to see a preview, BoldFreshTour.com.
BECK: Yes.
O'REILLY: And you can find it at a theater near you.
BECK: Lots of fun.
O'REILLY: I don't think you can say the...
BECK: May I say this, and I don't mean this offensive. But you really do scare most of the country. He is -- he's laugh-out-loud funny. I mean, I was sitting backstage -- I was sitting backstage watching. And I laughed out loud.
O'REILLY: That's because I was mocking you. And that's my best material.
BECK: Really, it is, it is.
O'REILLY: So anyway, Bold Fresh Tour Saturday night, in theaters all across the country.
BECK: Yes.
O'REILLY: Get the big tub of popcorn, Beck-O'Reilly.
BECK: Is that a fat joke?
O'REILLY: No, it's not. No, it's not. I stay away from those.
BECK: Look at the tie and the shirt. You'll forget about the fat.
O'REILLY: Glenn Beck, everybody. [Fox News, The O'Reilly Factor, 2/29/10 via Nexis]
Beck Self-Promotion: Restoring Courage Rally
Promoting Restoring Courage, Beck Says “An Old, Familiar Evil Is Rearing Its Ugly Head.” From Glenn Beck:
BECK: I believe now, it was just a precursor now. This is what we did last August in Washington, D.C. This August, I'm going to be holding another event that I am calling “Restoring Courage.” This time, I ask you to meet me in Jerusalem.
I mentioned Dietrich Bonhoeffer a few minutes ago. He has played a big role in my life recently. I believe, as he believed at those times, that trouble is coming for our Jewish friends and neighbors. And I believe it means something to all of us.
We promised we would never forget and never let it happen again. I don't know if it's going to happen again now. But evil -- an old, familiar evil is rearing its ugly head. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 5/16/11, via Nexis]
Beck Describes Restoring Courage: “It's Not About Policy. It's About Standing With The Jews And The Israelis And Standing Against Evil.” From Glenn Beck:
I announced on Monday that I'm going to be doing an event called “Restoring Courage” in Israel. I thought we were ahead of the curve a little more than we are.
I think it's time to have the guts to look inside yourself and, really, how do you fell about Jews and Israel, and are they our ally? Are they our friend? I thought we were ahead of the curve, but I think we're right on cue.
The call to courage is not just about Israel. It's about what you really believe in. Do you believe in the Western way of life? Because if Israel falls, the Western way of life will fall, and that is not hyperbole. It is the keystone of the West.
“U.S. News and World Report” ran this headline last night. I was in bed and I read this. And I thought, what are they out of their mind? “Will Glenn Beck's Israel rally hurt U.S. foreign policy?” That's not even what this is about. It's not about policy. It's about standing with the Jews and the Israelis and standing against evil. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 5/19/11, via Nexis]
Beck: “It Is Truly Going To Be, I Think, A Life-Altering Week.” From Glenn Beck:
BECK: On Friday morning, I announced a date for my trip to Jerusalem for “Restoring Courage.” It is 8.24. August 24th. It will be at the southern steps of the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. There will be two other events happening that week, between the 21st and 24th. It is truly going to be, I think, a life-altering week.
And if you'd like to go or if you'd like to organize an event, kind of like we did on 9.12 Project where people got together, please go to GlennBeck.com for all of details. Do that now. It's right around the corner. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 5/23/11, via Nexis]
Beck Self-Promotion: Rebranded Subscriber-Only GBTV Service
In Factor Interview, Beck Describes Online Video Venture. From The O'Reilly Factor:
O'REILLY: Thanks for staying with us. I'm Bill O'Reilly. In the “At Your Beck and Call” segment tonight, as you may know, the Beckmeister will be leaving FOX News later on this year. And he has a number of other ventures in the wind. And here he is to explain one of them.
GLENN BECK, FOX NEWS ANCHOR: I don't know what he's talking about.
O'REILLY: GBTV. Very snappy, Beck. GBTV, it rhymes and everything.
BECK: I haven't announced anything like that.
O'REILLY: How come it's all over the Internet, though? I mean, it says Glenn Beck...
BECK: So if it's on the Internet it must be true?
O'REILLY: I don't know if it's true or not. It's on the Internet. I don't really care. But people do ask me, though.
BECK: Do they? They keep him in a closet here at FOX. They roll him out.
O'REILLY: What is Beck going to do after he leaves his daily program on television?
BECK: I've got a metal detector, and I'm going to the beach.
O'REILLY: I can see that.
BECK: Seek for things buried in the sand.
O'REILLY: And then as you pass people on the blanket, you'd be going, “You know, the world is going to end soon.”
[...]
O'REILLY: Paul Newman. I get confused.
All right. Now, let's get back to this GBTV, because I do believe you are going...
BECK: I don't (UNINTELLIGIBLE).
O'REILLY: I know. But you are going to be doing television on the Internet. I do believe that's going to happen for you.
BECK: Hang on just a second. Hang on. It's probably not something we should talk about on the air. But are you asking me for a job, Bill?
O'REILLY: Yes, absolutely.
BECK: Because I do pay in carrots.
O'REILLY: That's all right. I'll take the gold like you do.
BECK: Yes.
O'REILLY: But if you did do a television network on the Internet, you know, it would be themed like your clothing line, right? There would be a theme to GBTV.
BECK: We're in the hypothetical word now?
O'REILLY: Oh, absolutely.
BECK: Yes. There would be a theme. It would be all cartoons. It would be all cartoons.
O'REILLY: Like Huckabee is doing? Cartoons to illustrate what history is? Huckabee has got that.
BECK: Yes, he does have that. No, it wouldn't be like that.
O'REILLY: You as a super hero?
BECK: Now, there's an idea.
O'REILLY: Big G?
BECK: Or -- or the adventures of Spooky Dude.
O'REILLY: Oh, he would sue your butt off, though.
BECK: Soros?
O'REILLY: He'd sue.
BECK: He would look good in tights and a cape. [Fox News, The O'Reilly Factor, 5/26/11 via Nexis]
Beck Self-Promotion: His Coupon Service, Markdown
Asked By O'Reilly If Coupon Service Will Give “Americans A Chance To Sample A Product At A Good Price,” Beck Answers, “Yes.” From The O'Reilly Factor:
O'REILLY: Now, is this false, too, that you're giving out coupons? That you're -- you've got some warehouse and you're going to save up your money?
BECK: No, I'm not going to be giving out coupons.
O'REILLY: What are you doing?
BECK: I'm not giving out -- what is it?
O'REILLY: What's this discount stuff you're doing? Your merchandising?
BECK: That is -- that is something that my company is also doing that is called markdown, which is not -- you know, these Groupon Web sites, they've got a billion things. And you know, you can get your hair removed or whatever.
We are looking for -- this is actually -- we just kicked this off this week. But there's a place on the Web site where you can go if you're an entrepreneur, and you can say, “If I could just get people to try my product...”
O'REILLY: Yes.
BECK: "... I believe, you know, I can paint the world or whatever."
O'REILLY: You're going to help the small business people?
BECK: Yes.
O'REILLY: By giving Americans a chance to sample a product at a good price.
BECK: Yes. We launched with Chocolates.com, which is a...
O'REILLY: Chocolates.com?
BECK: Which is a site that actually has found 250 small chocolate makers here in America. This guy was a small chocolate maker at one point.
O'REILLY: I like this, Beck. So Beck is actually -- you are doing good by helping American small business people get established through the power of your Web site.
BECK: Yes. Yes.
O'REILLY: This could -- you know, I'm going to call the pope. This could be canonization for you, Beck. This could be getting you in line. You know?
BECK: This is not helping you. If this is a job interview, this is not helping you, Mr. O'Reilly.
O'REILLY: I'm trying to give you a compliment.
BECK: It doesn't sound like one.
O'REILLY: Now, do you get a piece of the chocolate? Do you get free chocolate forever?
BECK: I get paid in chocolate. You, carrots. [Fox News, The O'Reilly Factor, 5/26/11 via Nexis]
Beck Self-Promotion: The Original Argument
Beck Hosts Co-Author Of The Original Argument On His Fox Show. From Glenn Beck:
BECK: Yes, it's hard to debate the facts when you're sitting across from David Barton. I should have actually called Jon Stewart and said, I warn you. He's a killer.
All right. David Barton is the founder and president of WallBuilders.
Josh Charles is coauthor of “The Original Argument: Translation of Federalist Papers.”
And Chris Stewart is the author of “7 Tipping Points that Saved the World.”
[...]
BECK: Yes, the general welfare clause. And we were at the time saying what the -- I don't know where that is. I don't know where -- that doesn't exist. He didn't even know the Constitution.
When we were talking about the 2,000-page bills -- the Federalist Papers, what do they say about 2,000 page bills?
JOSHUA CHARLES, “THE ORIGINAL ARGUMENT” CO-AUTHOR: Basically, if the law is too complicated for people to understand it, it's a dangerous tipping point for any country. For people that can't understand it. It's unintelligible even to people who are writing it and that's what happened. We've become administrative state where the government is so pushing itself in the areas where it can't go, where these congressmen and congresswomen can't possibly be experts on things they're legislating on, so they literally consign that responsibility elsewhere.
BECK: Which Federalist Papers is it? Do you remember which one is it?
CHARLES: I honestly forget.
BECK: Sixty --
CHARLES: Sixty-two.
BECK: Sixty-two.
CHARLES: Yes. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 6/16/11, via Nexis]
Beck Congratulates Co-Author On The Original Argument Being A Bestseller. From Glenn Beck:
BECK: All right. Let me tell you this too. The number one thing that nobody focuses on, integrity -- honesty and integrity. If you can be somebody people can trust, you'll go a long, long way.
Let me -- let me just say this because he doesn't know yet because I just got a phone call just a couple of minutes ago and I've already told the audience here. I think this is the coolest story. If anybody is watching at home and you think you can't make it and you're 25, there's a guy name Joshua Charles, he's been on this program now twice. He's a guy who heard me say about two years ago that somebody should rewrite the Federalist Papers. Well, he did and then he tried to get them to me and he tried and tried and tried and he couldn't get them to me.
Through a long story and long string of miracles, he got them to me. I said if they're any good, we'll consider publishing them. Well, they were; we did. It's called “The Original Argument.” Joshua, in case we haven't called you yet, I plan on calling you in a few minutes, congratulations, you're a number one “New York Times” bestseller. Anything can be done in America. “The Original Argument” available in bookstores everywhere. Back in a minute. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 6/22/11, via Nexis]
Beck Again Notes That Original Argument Is A Bestseller. From Glenn Beck:
BECK: That is up to you to figure out what that is. You don't just give up. That is the thing. People get frustrated. Right before you win, the guy, Joshua Charles, he wrote a book with me, “Original Argument,” number one “New York Times” best seller this week.
Coincidence? You decide. The week that CNN comes out with Fareed Zakaria that says, the constitution should be rewritten and “Time” magazine comes out and says the constitution isn't relevant anymore.
We come out with a book and it's the number one “New York Times” best seller on the original argument. What was the federalist argument all about for the constitution? I think that's divine providence myself. He almost gave up.
He came this close to giving up trying to get that manuscript to me. Just before you win, you give up. Don't give up. That is the key that we all have to do because we're, you know, just before Washington crossed the Delaware.
They were going to turn and run, but it was Thomas Pane who wrote these are the times that try men's souls because the whole country -- Congress had already fled. They were ready to run and cave, but they didn't. He crossed the Delaware. He beat the Haitians and the rest is America. Back in a second. [Fox News, Glenn Beck, 6/27/11, via Nexis]
