Fox News podcast host Jason Chaffetz is set to fundraise for Republicans in April in a clear violation of the network’s supposed rule against political campaigning. Lachlan Murdoch, Fox Corporation executive chairman and chief executive officer, has labeled Fox News the “loyal opposition” to President Joe Biden’s administration.
Chaffetz is a Fox News contributor and the host of the Jason in the House: The Jason Chaffetz Podcast, which launches today. He also regularly guest hosts Fox News prime-time programs. He is a former Republican member of Congress who has pushed the lie that the 2020 election was stolen from former President Donald Trump.
Chaffetz is scheduled to do a fundraiser on April 24 for the Madison County Republican Party in Texas. An invitation to the event touts his Fox News affiliation.
Fox News claimed in 2018 that it “does not condone any talent participating in campaign events.” The network's purported policy has been inconsistently enforced.
Since joining Fox News in 2017, Chaffetz has done numerous Republican fundraisers and in several instances has received money for speaking. In 2020, he did fundraisers for the Sangamon County Republican Central Committee in Illinois, the Jefferson County Republican Party in Texas, and the Teton County Republican Party in Wyoming.
Media Matters documented earlier this month that Fox News host Trey Gowdy is also scheduled to speak at Republican fundraisers in the upcoming weeks despite the network’s supposed policy.
