American Society of News Editors is holding its annual Sunshine Week, which focuses on efforts to gain access to public information and government documents.
Part of the effort is to honor local citizens who take advantage of the Freedom Of Information Act laws and options and demand access to public information. ASNE has chosen three such individuals, in New Jersey, Florida and Virginia.
They include a Florida woman who sued county officials for better access to public information, a New Jersey woman who started a community organization that demanded tax information from a local municipality, and a Virginia couple who investigated and found local officials mishandled some $400,000 in local tax revenue.
Their stories can be found on the Sunshine Week Web site HERE.
