The Indianapolis Star apologized to Duke University mens basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski for an illustration in Friday's paper that depicted him in a negative way, with devil-like horns and a target on his head.
“Jim Lefko, the Star's senior editor/sports, said the paper pulled the illustration 'when we realized it didn't meet our standards,'” Associated Press reported. “He estimated the drawing appeared in fewer than 30,000 copies of the edition distributed statewide. He said he apologized Friday morning to Duke officials, who said they hadn't yet seen the illustration.”
The illustration ran a day before Duke played the University of West Virginia for the right to take on Butler University, which is located just a few miles from Indianapolis, in tonight's NCAA men's basketball championship game. That game is set to be played in Indianapolis.
