Attorneys for several media outlets filed a motion Tuesday opposing U.S. District Judge James Zagel's plans to keep juror identities confidential in the corruption trial of former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich, according to the Chicago Tribune.
“Zagel said last month that he would withhold the names of the jurors from the news media until after a verdict is reached, fearing that coverage could lead to jury tampering. The judge said he was worried that bloggers would contact jurors during the trial,” the Tribune reported. “Tuesday's motion, filed by attorneys for the Chicago Tribune, The New York Times, The Associated Press and other organizations, requests immediate access to juror names during the selection process, which begins Thursday. There is 'no valid reason' to keep the names sealed now, the motion states.”
