U.S Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner will speak during lunch Tuesday, April 13, at the American Society of News Editors annual convention in Washington, D.C.

Although he will be questioned by the great Washington Post business scribe Steven Pearlstein, no other press covering the convention will be able to question him as per ASNE's long-standing rules.

Reston, VA -U.S Treasury Secretary Timothy F. Geithner will speak during lunch Tuesday, April 13, to ASNE's annual convention -- the NewsNow Ideas Summit -- which will be held next week in Washington, D.C.

As part of the presentation, Secretary Geithner will be interviewed by Steven Pearlstein, the Pulitzer Prize-winning business columnist at The Washington Post. Geithner will address the gathering of top news editors as Congress returns to work and to the issue of financial reform.

Prior to joining the Obama administration, Geithner served as the ninth president and chief executive officer of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. He served as the vice chairman and a permanent member of the Federal Open Market Committee, the group responsible for formulating the nation's monetary policy.

Geithner first joined the Department of Treasury in 1988 and worked in three administrations for five secretaries of the Treasury in a variety of positions. He served as under secretary of the Treasury for International Affairs from 1999 to 2001 under Secretaries Robert Rubin and Lawrence Summers.

He was director of the Policy Development and Review Department at the International Monetary Fund from 2001 until 2003. Earlier in his career, Secretary Geithner worked for Kissinger Associates, Inc.
Other key speakers at the ASNE annual convention include Google CEO Eric Schmidt, who will open the conference Sunday night.
