On the April 6 edition of MSNBC News Live, while discussing House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's (D-CA) recent meeting with Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad in Damascus, Republican strategist Brad Blakeman said that Pelosi “abandoned her post up on Capitol Hill” and went to Syria “to give aid and comfort to him [Assad] instead of funding our troops.”

Blakeman later called Pelosi “the Neville Chamberlain of our time." Chamberlain was the British prime minister who signed the Munich Agreement ceding the Czech Sudetenland to Nazi Germany.

The U.S. Constitution states that "Treason against the United States shall consist only in levying war against them, or in adhering to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort."

MIKA BRZEZINSKI (anchor): And the barbs are flying from both sides, but is anyone really behaving badly, as the vice president suggested?

BLAKEMAN: Well, you know where she should be? She should be right behind me. She abandoned her post up on Capitol Hill. She did not get a funding bill to the president that the president could sign, which funds our troops. Instead, where does she go?

She goes to the belly of the beast -- to the terrorists themselves in Syria to give aid and comfort to him, instead of funding our troops, which need to carry on the fight in Iraq.

BRZEZINSKI: All right, let me ask Brad a question. The Syrian leader did seem receptive to the House speaker. Was it just a show, do you think?

BLAKEMAN: Oh, he's playing her like a fiddle. Look at the coverages that he is using for his own benefit -- not only in his country -- but in Iran and in the rest of the Middle East. They played Pelosi like a fiddle, and quite frankly, she's the Neville Chamberlain of our time.
