New York Times Gives Wall Street Journal Launch Short Shrift

For all of the reaction New York Times executive have given to the launching of a 'Greater New York' section in The Wall Street Journal Monday, the Times today had not a word of the big event in its news pages.

Despite Times executives releasing a lengthy memo Monday boasting its news and advertising revenue prominence in New York, which included a friendly jab at the Journal as a newcomer, not a word about the new edition made it into print today.

“I think everyone knew about it, we had written about it before,” said Larry Ingrassia, Times business editor, who cited a 1,600-word piece back on March 21. “We were well ahead of the news.”

Times Media Columnist David Carr did offer a lengthy piece on his blog Monday about the Journal's kick-off breakfast. But readers of the print edition saw zero.
