Limbaugh Claims Democrats “Were A Little Jealous” 9-11 Happened On Bush's Watch

By Todd Gregory

Coming back from the holiday weekend, it didn't feel much like Rush wanted to do his show today. He did, however, manage to muster up the energy to attack the Obama administration over two big stories: the oil leak in the Gulf and Israel's raid on a flotilla trying to breach the blockade of Gaza. On the oil leak, Rush just can't seem to make up his mind, vacillating between using the leak as a political cudgel against President Obama and downplaying the environmental damage caused by oil spills. Today, Limbaugh read from a New York Times blog post about oil spills in the Niger Delta to suggest the BP leak isn't a big deal. He later clarified that he wasn't “justifying” the spill, but nonetheless called it “not exceptional” and “not unusual.” He continued to use the leak as a political weapon, calling the situation Obama's “Bay of Rigs” and somehow connecting it to Bill Ayers and Rev. Jeremiah Wright.

Rush's take on the flotilla raid was pretty straightforward: Obama's reaction shows his dislike for Israel, and our enemies see the United States as a “pansy” because of Obama's rhetoric on foreign policy. Limbaugh said that the flotilla was a “provocation” and that the Turkish government is now led by “Islamists.” He also managed to announce about halfway through the second hour that the “United States” had condemned Israel over the raid -- he corrected himself about an hour later, saying that the “United Nations” had condemned Israel. He blamed the mix-up on the small text of on-screen news channel graphics.

Rush also pondered the announcement that Al and Tipper Gore have decided to separate. In predictably classy fashion, Limbaugh labeled their split “Gore-al cooling” and used the news as an excuse to recycle tired smears of Al Gore. He read from a 2007 New Scientist article on a study finding that divorce isn't good for the environment, which he seemed to think was funny or ironic, or perhaps to be evidence of hypocrisy on Gore's part. It wasn't really clear.

But the real gem from today's show was Limbaugh's declaration that Democrats “were a little jealous” that 9-11 happened on President Bush's watch instead of on President Clinton's, because it would have been “a real crisis” for Clinton “to define himself by.”
