On Monday, Rush Limbaugh joined Drudge and other right-wing media outlets in suggesting that President Obama drinks too much based on recommendations from his doctor outlined in a memo following Obama's routine physical examination.
Limbaugh stated:
But here in the UK Guardian, check the last line of this story: “The doctors also recommended moderation of alcohol intake.” What? Now they tell us. Doctors recommended moderation of alcohol intake? I have never seen that report about any president's check-up. Moderate his alcohol intake.
In fact, among the recommendations from Obama's physician was “moderation in alcohol intake” [emphasis added], which is not the same thing as saying that Obama needs to “moderate his alcohol intake” as Limbaugh stated.
From the memo's “Recommendations” section:
Continue smoking cessation efforts, a daily exercise program, healthy diet, moderation in alcohol intake, periodic dental care, and remain up-to-date with recommended immunizations.
Again, this is a benign list of recommendations. Nothing more.
Let's make this clearer for Limbaugh, et al:
THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO EVIDENCE OBAMA'S DOCTOR THINKS OBAMA DRINKS TOO MUCH.
Does the fact that the doctor recommended “periodic dental care” necessarily mean that Obama has a problem with brushing his teeth?
