On his radio show yesterday, Rush Limbaugh decided to respond to a roundtable discussion on ABC's This Week with Christiane Amanpour in which women reporters commented on sex and politics in the wake of the Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-NY) scandal. Limbaugh suggested that liberal women are at fault for political sex scandals, specifically blaming their supposed efforts to suppress testosterone in men.
Limbaugh essentially stated that by “hanging around a bunch of liberal women” “who have been attacking testosterone” and “traditional male roles,” Weiner is no longer “a real guy.” Limbaugh also stated: “How do these men turn out this way? Who makes them that way? Because that is not their natural state. I mean look at Weiner. We cannot blame what happened to Weiner on testosterone. We are looking at a guy here -- he's kitty-whipped.”
However, Limbaugh didn't stop there. He said that “we blame liberal women for what these politicians are doing” because “they have feminized politics to such a degree that men can't be men anymore.” According to Limbaugh, liberal women have “neutered the business of politics,” which is suppressing testosterone in men. During the show, Limbaugh also claimed that Hillary Clinton, unlike Sarah Palin, “might castrate you if you go off the reservation.”
Listen:
Sadly (for Rush), his theory is not only ridiculous, degrading, and utterly disconnected from anything related to feminism, but it also lacks logic. His theory fails to explain the numerous sex scandals involving conservative men. Perhaps, that is something that Rush still needs to ponder. Or perhaps, he would like to conveniently leave it out of the picture.
I wouldn't venture to guess whether Limbaugh actually believes what he's spewing, but it sure sounds a lot like Limbaugh's normal attacks on the feminist movement, women in general, and progressives dressed up as psychoanalysis.
