Rush spent about a large portion of the show today attacking President Obama's town hall performance the day before. Discussing Obama's statement that under the Bush administration, “we had two tax cuts that weren't paid for, two wars that weren't paid for,” Rush claimed that tax cuts don't need to be paid for, pushing the falsehood that tax cuts pay for themselves. He also said that, if the wars aren't paid for, then nothing is paid for, because the government is running deficits. Rush claimed that “everything about this administration is an utter fraud” and compared Obama to an “angry, arrogant, know it all teenager” who blames others for his failures.
But Rush was particularly interested in a woman who told Obama that “I'm exhausted of defending you, defending your administration, defending the mantle of change that I voted for.” Rush said that the reason that people haven't attacked this woman is because she is black. If she “had been white ... they would be all over [her] like white on a Klansman.” Rush also claimed that, because she later said on CNN that she still supported Obama, someone must have gotten to her. Rush speculated that it was probably her family, not the government or Colin Powell that told her to do some “damage control.”
Rush briefly touched on a number of other subjects during the show. He attacked Michelle Obama for promoting breastfeeding to fight obesity. Rush said that breastfeeding isn't tied to obesity, although the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says otherwise. Rush also touted Republican plans to unveil a new Contract with America, saying that this would give Republicans a mandate once people voted for them.
Rush later claimed that the National Bureau of Economic Research -- which recently declared that the recession that began in 2007 ended in June 2009 -- was a government agency. However, after a short commercial break, Rush corrected himself, noting that it was not a government agency. He then attacked the NBER as a bunch of Harvard professors.
