Rush led off his show with a reiteration of the posting that appeared earlier in the day on his website: that President Clinton and Janet Reno are to blame for the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing because of their responsibility for the “Waco invasion.” On the radio, he went so far as to say that Clinton's ties to domestic terrorism in Oklahoma are “tangible” and denied that he bore any responsibility for the bombing. Rush returned to this several times, doing his best to make clear that Timothy McVeigh's actions were Clinton's fault and not his own. He even said that “the country was attacked on 9-11” because Clinton “ignored terrorism throughout the '90s.” Anything attempting to tie Democrats to terror goes today on The Rush Limbaugh Show.
In the first hour and change, Limbaugh also talked about comments yesterday by Joe Klein and John Heilemann about rhetoric from right-wing media figures being “right up close to being seditious.” He defended himself from these allegations, and before cutting to a break, said that the theme of the show to that point had been, “Don't screw with me.”
Rush also spent a good deal of time on a Pew poll that found that nearly 80 percent of Americans say they can't trust the government in Washington and managed to stretch this into saying that this means that all 80 percent of these people agree with him. In addition, Rush hit on the right-wing conspiracy theory that the Obama administration had coordinated with the SEC to file a lawsuit against Goldman Sachs in order to build support for financial-regulatory reform.
Oh, and Rush inexplicably said that the Tea Party is “the first time” that “everyday citizens” have “risen up” “since the Civil War.”
Here are some highlights from the show:
Limbaugh: Wall Street scandals were a “government caused problem”
Limbaugh: Because Clinton “ignored terrorism throughout the 90s,” “the country was attacked on 9/11”
Limbaugh: “Can I say 'let's call a spade a spade' now?”
Limbaugh: "'Regime' implies and defines authoritarian governments, which this one clearly is"
