Most of whom, according to officials, arrived just within the last two days. The situation prompting Texas Gov. Greg Abbott to threaten to order six ports of entry to shut down, blaming the Biden administration’s policies for compelling so many to take the dangerous journey. The pictures here capture just one snapshot of what's happening all along the southern border. Those standing here wait under a bridge, the only shaded area, in hopes of avoiding heat-related illness.
What the pictures don't show is the other type of illness seeping in, here and elsewhere -- the rapid spread of COVID-19 making a difficult situation even worse. In El Paso, Texas, U.S. Customs and Border Patrol struggling to keep up.
