On the April 26 edition of his nationally syndicated radio program, Rush Limbaugh remarked that a new videotape released by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the rumored leader of Al Qaeda in Iraq, “is an excellent opportunity to remind all of you that it sounds just like the DNC [Democratic National Committee] is writing his scripts now.” According to the Associated Press, the narrator of the tape -- who is believed to be Zarqawi -- “said the March 2003 war against Iraq 'was unjust war by the head of infidelity, America,'” and “called President Bush an 'idiot' for announcing an end to major hostilities in May 2003.” Limbaugh claimed that Zarqawi “sounds like Democrats,” including "[DNC chairman] Howard Dean, [former Vice President] Al Gore, [former President] Jimmy Carter, [Sen.] Harry Reid [NV], [Sen.] Ted Kennedy [MA], [Sen.] John Kerry [MA] ... [Sen.] Carl Levin [MI], [and Rep.] Nancy Pelosi [CA]."
As Media Matters for America has noted, Limbaugh has previously accused the Democratic Party of sympathizing with Al Qaeda. During a broadcast on April 11, Limbaugh accused Democrats of pandering to illegal immigrants to gain voters stating, "[I]f you're Al Qaeda, come on in over the southern border! The Democrats will take your votes as well!"
From the April 26 edition of Premiere Radio Networks' The Rush Limbaugh Show:
There's a newspaper interview or a story in The New York Times, and they review his video, and The New York Times says Zarqawi “mocked President Bush and accused him of lying to the American people.” Indeed! The new Zarqawi video accuses President Bush of “arrogance” and said the president had “become a liar to your own people, you claim that everything is under control, and it appears afterward that you are lying.”
Now, who does that sound like? It sounds like Democrats. How about Howard Dean, Al Gore, Jimmy Carter, Harry Reid, Ted Kennedy, John Kerry -- who served in Vietnam, by the way -- Carl Levin, Nancy Pelosi, and on and on and on. It sounds like Saddam at his trial in Baghdad: “Bush lied. I had no weapons of mass destruction. Bring me Senator Kennedy as a character witness over here!” I've made this point countless times on my program with great effectiveness, my friends, because that's what I do. That's why I'm effective. This new video by Zarqawi is an excellent opportunity to remind all of you that it sounds just like the DNC is writing his scripts now.
