We already knew Rush Limbaugh was a sexist. But he's hit a new low, and for Rush, that's really saying something.
On his radio show yesterday, conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh reminisced about “a great period in [his] program's past.” So what exactly is it that warms Rush's big heart to the core? No, it's not the “issues” of today but the joy of screening, rating, and cataloging the pictures of women who call into his show.
From the June 8 edition of Premiere Radio Networks' The Rush Limbaugh Show:
But there is no need to fret, if you're a woman and don't really know what you rate yourself as, Mr. Limbaugh will be glad to give you a hand. Today, Limbaugh announced that he will be able to determine for you whether you have the appearance necessary to have legitimate thoughts and ideas:
Rush Limbaugh has a long history of attacking liberal women. He has called Hillary Clinton "the sex-retary of state," female news reporters "infobabes" who "chickify" the news, and members of National Organization for Women (NOW) "whores to liberalism," Now, he has made it clear that it's not a political thing for him. It's how he views all women. He thinks conservative women are also “inclined to vote on superficial and emotional things first.”
Limbaugh's comments are not only derogatory but they insinuate an image of women as individuals who not only lack depth but the capability to make rational decisions also. It is interesting though, for someone with Limbaugh's history of ridiculous commentary to be attacking women for being incapable of rationality. He has even had to apologize.
Furthermore, Limbaugh's attacks are now straying from the liberal-conservative divide, and targeting all women. His listeners are now part of the group that he targets as voting “on the superficial and emotional things first.” It will be interesting to know whether Rush's female listeners embrace his sexist philosophy or not.
